Job Skills Assessments

Measure job-relevant skills using realistic workplace scenarios

FAQ

A job skills assessment evaluates how someone applies workplace skills in realistic situations. Instead of asking people to rate their own abilities, it presents scenarios that reflect common workplace challenges and examines how they respond. The assessment provides a profile of strengths, development areas, and behavioural approaches relevant to specific skills.

Most assessments take about 25 to 35 minutes and can be timed. They use scenario-based situational judgement questions, with several answer choices set in a workplace context.

Assessments can be tailored to specific roles, industries, and organisational requirements. We offer targeted coverage across a range of positions including management, sales, customer service, and other roles. Skills are selected based on the requirements of the role, industry context, and intended application. Our frameworks are designed around workplace competencies that influence effective performance, such as collaboration, decision-making, communication, and managing relationships.

Low scores indicate where focused development will have the most impact, not failure. Most job-relevant skills can be improved with targeted training, coaching, and practice over time. The scenarios are designed around workplace situations rather than specific technical knowledge. They assess how someone approaches common challenges, makes decisions, and applies relevant skills. However, role-specific assessments can be designed where particular experience or expertise is required.

Yes. Your results include a detailed skills gap analysis, strength identification, and personalised development recommendations with specific training suggestions and action steps.

Both individuals and organisations. For example, individuals can use results to understand their current skills, identify development priorities, and guide career growth. Organisations use assessments to support recruitment, internal mobility, talent development, leadership programmes, and workforce planning.

This assessment is still in development and is not live yet, so no results data is collected or stored through it today. When it launches, your data will be encrypted and stored securely, your results will be visible only to you unless you choose to share them, and we will follow strict data privacy protocols and never share your individual data with third parties. You will be able to request access to your data or ask for it to be deleted at any time by contacting us directly at hello@the-innerview.com. See our Privacy Policy and our Ethical Standards and BPS Compliance page for more detail.

No. Our job skills assessments are one source of evidence and should be used alongside structured interviews, work samples, and other relevant information. Relying solely on any single assessment in hiring or promotion decisions is not considered best practice and may carry legal risk under UK employment law, including the Equality Act 2010.

No. These are organisational assessment tools designed to measure job-relevant skills in general workplace contexts. They are not clinical instruments and do not diagnose any psychological condition, learning difficulty, or medical issue. If you have concerns about a specific condition, we encourage you to consult a qualified clinical professional.

We are committed to making all our assessments accessible. If you have a condition, disability, or neurodevelopmental difference that may affect your experience, contact us at hello@the-innerview.com before starting. We will discuss adjustments such as extended time or alternative formats where possible. The job skills assessments will be hosted on The Inner View platform.

The assessments cover six work-relevant areas: People Management, Learning Agility, Service Orientation, Conflict Resolution, Team Collaboration, and Stakeholder Management. Each looks at the practical judgement behind the skill, such as how someone gives feedback, adapts to new situations, handles a difficult customer, or navigates competing priorities. For custom assessments, coverage can focus on the areas that matter most for a given job role.

Workplace scenarios present realistic situations that require judgement and decision-making. Instead of asking people to describe their own abilities, our job skills assessments examine how they would respond to common workplace challenges. This provides information about how skills may be applied in practice.

Each scenario offers several responses that differ in how effective they are in a workplace context. Scores tend to reflect how closely user choices align with effective, work-relevant judgement, based on an expert-derived scoring key rather than personal opinion. Results are presented as a profile across the skill areas, and not a single pass or fail.

These assessments evaluate skills and judgement that are relevant to effective workplace behaviour. They can provide useful evidence to recruitment and talent assessment when combined with structured interviews, experience, performance data, and other selection or development methods. They do not predict job performance with certainty or replace broader decision-making processes.

The results are designed to be developmental, with a skills gap analysis and practical suggestions for building capability. They are genuinely useful to the person who takes them. In a selection setting, whether and how that feedback is shared is decided by the organisation running the process, and we encourage a constructive approach that helps candidates learn about their assessment experience regardless of the outcome.
